The
Centre for Research in Higher Education Policies (CIPES) was created in 1998,
and is the only entity of its kind in Portugal. Its mission then and now has
always been to engage in scholarly
research in order to advance critical thought and promote informed understanding about
the vital policy issues confronting higher education in both the national and
international arenas. The breadth and depth of projects and publications encompasses
the full tapestry of higher education policy issues and reflects the wide diversity
of academic backgrounds of the researchers at the Centre.
The Centre is one of the founding members of HEDDA ,
the Higher Education Development Association , and is an active partner
with numerous other higher education research centres throughout the world.
CIPES collaborates and contributes to a number of masters and doctoral
programs (Porto, Aveiro and Oslo) at
member universities in Europe with the goal of promoting an increase in
the community of scholars dedicated
to the empirical inquiry into policy issues surrounding higher education.
In further support of the advancement of knowledge about higher education
policy, the Centre organizes and actively participates in many national
and international conferences, seminars, symposia and related events dealing
with key issues within the realm of higher education policy.
